Bond Yield rate Vs Bond Coupon rate

I want to inquire about something small on bonds... The bond yield rate and the coupon rate — what should appeal more to me as a wanainchi investor?"

Clarifying bond investing basics.

Coupon Rate = Your regular income.

It’s the fixed interest a bond pays you based on its face value.

Example: If you buy a UGX 100,000 bond at 15% coupon rate, you’ll earn UGX 15,000 per year (UGX 7,500 every 6 months). Simple.

Yield (Yield to Maturity) = Your actual return.

This matters when you're buying a bond at a discount or premium (like on the secondary market). It tells you what return you're actually earning, based on what you paid.

Coupon rate is like rent — it’s the fixed income you get every period. Yield is like return on investment — it tells you if what you paid for that rental house was worth it

So which should matter more?

> For cash flow, look at the coupon. For return on investment, focus on the yield.

>Coupon = what they pay you, Yield = what you earn
